Most park visitors enter through the eastern entrance, passing through the charming town of Estes Park. But the western entrance is a hidden gem in itself, teeming with wildlife and wildflowers found in the meadows of Kawuneeche Valley. Stroll along the accessible Coyote Valley Trail for a picnic and breathtaking views of the valley and Colorado River.

With stunning views of a high-alpine lake and access to gorgeous trails such as the Emerald Lake Trail, the Bear Lake area is one of the most-visited destinations in the park. If you're planning an adventure here, arrive before 8 a.m. or earlier for the best chance to access this area. If you slept through your alarm, take a drive along Trail Ridge Road and then return in the afternoon. Note: Depending on what season you visit, a timed entry permit may be required.
