No matter how you choose to adventure, Rocky Mountain National Park offers visitors a little bit of everything. Roll down the windows and take in the views along the iconic Trail Ridge Road, or pack your gear for the challenging climb up Longs Peak, the highest point in the park. Note: The difficult trek up Longs Peak requires significant preparation and planning.

Get your heart rate going in a true winter wonderland with can’t-miss, cold weather favorites in Rocky Mountain National Park. Bundle up and reserve your spot on a ranger-led snowshoe hike through snow-covered landscapes—open to all skill levels.

Off the Beaten Path

Most park visitors enter through the eastern entrance, passing through the charming town of Estes Park. But the western entrance is a hidden gem in itself, teeming with wildlife and wildflowers found in the meadows of Kawuneeche Valley. Stroll along the accessible Coyote Valley Trail for a picnic and breathtaking views of the valley and Colorado River.

Insider's Tip

With stunning views of a high-alpine lake and access to gorgeous trails such as the Emerald Lake Trail, the Bear Lake area is one of the most-visited destinations in the park. If you're planning an adventure here, arrive before 8 a.m. or earlier for the best chance to access this area. If you slept through your alarm, take a drive along Trail Ridge Road and then return in the afternoon. Note: Depending on what season you visit, a timed entry permit may be required.
